2016 is a big moment for Gilmore Girls.
When news broke that Lorelai and Rory were coming back to our small screen – coffee mugs were toasted, pizzas were wolfed down, and a Gilmore Girls marathon was set in motion.
Any hardcore fan knows that Gilmore Girls is not only a TV show – it’s also a lifestyle and religion.
More importantly, it’s a pop culture phenomenon where its signature rapid-fire dialogue can be mirrored with our life.
In honour of the revival (which drops on Netflix today!), here are my five picks to live life according to the beloved series:
When it comes to fashion:
“Shorts are unprofessional.”
– Lorelai Gilmore
Never wear shorts when you’re meeting a business acquaintance over coffee.
Never post a picture of you wearing shorts on LinkedIn.
And yes, a cheesy picture of you brandishing a pen in a Harvard dorm room is just as bad.
When it comes to conversations:
“Okay, let’s be organized – make it fast, make it snappy.”
– Lorelai Gilmore
Cut to the chase.
Eliminate the itty-bitty details.
Save your long ass story for your blog or memoir.
When it comes to interests:
“One can’t be interested in everything.”
– Rose Samuels, Ivy League College Consultant
You’re gonna go batshit crazy if you try to do everything.
Not into hobbies?
When it comes to making the first move:
“You won’t get anything unless you ask for it. And if you ask for it and you don’t get it, maybe it wasn’t worth having in the first place. Some things are just never meant to be, no matter how much we wish they were.”
– Carolyn Bates, Psychologist
Don’t expect people to read your mind.
And last but not the least, when it comes to regrets:
“I want to live my life so that I’ll be able to read an in-depth biography about myself in later years, and not puke.”
– Paris Geller
Happy Gilmore Girls Day!
Next up, Bunheads revival.
